Miracles DO happen!

What a weekend it has been. My daughter Michelle was scheduled for an out patient procedure at 7:00 am Friday. The laparscopy procedure for endometriosis appeared to have gone well but on the drive home from the hospital Michelle passed out. Her husband, Jeffrey, turned around and went back to the hospital. Michelle was conscious all day but had very low blood pressure and her red blood cell count kept dropping until it was nearly low enough to warrant a transfusion. It was not until this point that the ER decided to call her surgeon.   It was also at this point that I called my mom and Nikki who called  Don (the girls’ dad). The doctor ordered a CT scan and admitted her. The CT scan showed significant internal bleeding and so he decided to go back in with the scope to see what was going on. With the scope he could not find anything bleeding so he decided to call in a general surgeon and "open her up". By now it is 9:30 pm.   I was so afraid of losing her. During all this we are still at home because we were babysitting Aiden while she had the laparscopy. So, they opened her up through her c-section scar and removed what he called 4 coke cans full of blood (I figure about 48 ounces) and several very large clots from her abdominal cavity. They recycled her blood through a machine and put it back into her. They checked all her organs, all major arteries, all reproductive organs and found nothing bleeding. They left her open for approx 30 minutes and watched but no bleeding. Her vital signs are now back to normal and her hemoglobin is climbing.  It is 11:30 pm by this time.  Doctor says she will be in the hospital through the weekend and will not be able to go back to work for about 4 weeks.

By Saturday morning she was feeling more perky. After taking Aiden to Jeffrey’s dad, Matt and I were at the hospital with her for several hours. Her vital signs were all good, her blood pressure is now back to normal and the blood test does not show any indication of further bleeding. Saturday evening they removed the catheter and got her sitting up in a chair.

During the night Saturday they removed the IVs (she had 3: fluids, antibiotics, painkiller). On Sunday morning she was allowed solid food. Her doctor came in that morning and said she had made remarkable progress and if she had a good day she could go home that evening. She did. We were with them for a couple of hours on Sunday and she was in very good spirits and while weak, she felt good.

Michelle’s dad was there to talk to the doctor and he shared the doctor’s words with me. The doctor said that the lowest her blood count got was the test on Friday at 3:00 pm. That was also the time that I started praying for the bleeding to stop. Apparently it did stop since the blood count did not get any lower. Thank you Lord.
