While reading a few days ago about a dear friend of mine in Tonga, he mentioned that during the Christmas season they would miss their family back home. My heart sank. Every Christmas I look forward to hanging with family, eating all the goodies that's laid out at each location we stop by. I understood that this must be hard for them. I Wished them a happy Christmas and prepared to read the Christmas story in Luke to my family.
While I was preparing to read the story I kept thinking of all the things I wanted to give my family this year... Money is tight this year so I'm limited on what I could give which made me feel a little down. I mean, my family is more of a blessing than I could ever explain! My wife, an AWESOME woman for God and she cares for us all so much. My son, he has a heart bigger than I've seen throughout my life! I know God is using them and will use them in such mighty ways for His glory. Who wouldn't want to give them the best gifts money could buy.
Before I sat down with everyone to read from Luke, I turned to Deuteronomy to see if God had something for me today. I then preceded to read chapter 7:6.
For you are a holy people, who belong to the LORD your God. Of all the people on earth, the LORD your God has chosen you to be his own special treasure. (Deuteronomy 7:6 NLT)
WOW did you read it? God refers to His people as His own special treasure! That scripture spoke into my life throughout the day as I meditated on it more and more.
The Creator of the entire universe has called His people His special treasure? Though all the faults I've had throughout my life time, all the terrible things I've done, all the times I've turned my back to Him... I'm His special treasure? The thoughts continued throughout my day...
My family and I read the Christmas story in Luke, what an amazing Gift God gave us on this day. A baby born who would die for our sins... WOW what a gift so clean and so worthy of our praise! Then I remembered what a Gift Jesus was and how did He give back to God? He offered Himself back to God! WOW if Jesus is God's Gift to us, a Treasure to all who find Him, we are to be like Him and God refers to His people as His special treasures shouldn't we do the same and offer ourselves back to God? Of course!
Then we continued to church and we all worshiped God and heard stories about what Christmas meant to others and it ll began to sink in. As I closed my eyes and listened to everyone sing His Glorious Name, I heard all the treasures of God united and celebrating the Gift God gave us and in return for us offering ourselves back to Him, He had blessed us with His special treasures surrounding us!
Christmas isn't about what we get, its about what God gave us. The world teaches us that everything is about what we get here on earth, the truth is its about what we give back to God. I'm so blessed to have the family God has blessed me with and I'm honored to see each one of them giving themselves back to God! Its all about His glory.
This Christmas was the best I've ever had as I learned that each one of us are treasures to God. The treasures of the world are not even comparable to the treasures God has given each of us.
My goal is to see everyone as God's treasure, someone might be living with sin in their life, or maybe someone has lost everything... The world says they're a failure, lazy, a bum but we need to remember God refers to His people as special treasures and we should see each other as the same.
